Falmouth’s Business Improvement District welcomes new Project Manager

The Board of Falmouth’s Business Improvement District (BID) welcomes a new Project Manager this month to facilitate the delivery of its objectives.

Richard Wilcox is the new head at the helm and he brings to the role a wealth of tourism and marketing experience as well as a passion for Falmouth, a comprehensive knowledge of Cornwall and a proven track record of hitting the ground running.

Tree Donation Scheme

Falmouth Town Council are offering the opportunity for residents in the area to participate in its tree donation scheme.

The two principle sites for the planting of donated trees will be Kimberley Park and the old half of Falmouth Cemetery, with the possibility of others available upon request. Consideration will be given to requests for particular species, but they will need to fulfill criteria such as:

Falmouth Twinning Association - Remembrance of Times Past

When the Deputy Mayor of Douarnenez recently joined the 42 strong contingent from Brittany visiting their “twins” in Falmouth, the Falmouth Twinning Association discovered that their varied programme of cultural and leisure visits held a hidden gem for M. William Boulic and his wife, Marie Paule.

On a day out exploring the beautiful Cornish coastline at Coverack, he revealed that his father, Rene, was one of 19 men who escaped Nazi invaded France in April 1943. They braved spectacularly stormy seas, taking some 52 hours before they landed safely in Cornwall, at Coverack.

Paint Party in the Park – Trescobeas gets a lick of colour!

On 19th September Falmouth residents were invited to head down to the new Trescobeas recreational space on Lambs Lane in Falmouth to celebrate the start of the next phase of development.

The fun kicked off from midday when young people were given a chance to contribute to murals which have brightened up the park and paved the way for phase two of this ambitious and transformative project.

Britain in Bloom Awards

Falmouth claims a gold award, a top trophy and praise for one of its primary schools at this years Britain in Bloom Awards.

Falmouth Town Council has been working in partnership with Cornwall Council's Environmental Service, local schools and community groups to build upon last years success and this year they have scooped a gold award in the Portman Cup, the category for large towns.

In addition, the town's Gyllyngdune and Queen Mary gardens were named the "best in the west" and won the Abbis Trophy, an award nominated at the judges' discretion.

Boslowick By-Election

Alan James Jewell, the Conservative Party Candidate, is elected to the Town Council.

The number of votes recorded for each candidate at the election is as follows:

Alan James Jewell (Conservative): 469 votes

Roger John Bonney (Liberal Democrats): 358 votes

Peter Joseph Dudley (Mebyon Kernow - The Party for Cornwall): 84 votes

Lesley Anne Trenchard (Labour): 71 votes
