Paint Party in the Park – Trescobeas gets a lick of colour!

On 19th September Falmouth residents were invited to head down to the new Trescobeas recreational space on Lambs Lane in Falmouth to celebrate the start of the next phase of development.

The fun kicked off from midday when young people were given a chance to contribute to murals which have brightened up the park and paved the way for phase two of this ambitious and transformative project.

The internationally renowned Falmouth based design team from Mor and mural painter Belle Benfield, who has worked extensively in New York and the UK, worked alongside the young people to decorate various sections of the park, including long concrete tubes and wooden posts. There was music, a woodland cleanup, craft workshops, games, food and refreshments as well as a chance to speak to the Mor design team who have been working with local residents and Falmouth Town Council on the project.

The Trescobeas Park project has been designed with the whole community in mind but the main aim of phase two is to create a dedicated space for young people to socialise in and feel a sense of ownership for. Young people were encouraged to come along to the paint party so that they could work together to put their own stamp on the park and also come up with ideas for how the park can be used in the future.

The redevelopment is being led by LLAMA (Lamb’s Lane and Ashfield Members Association) and has been split into three phases, the first of which has been funded through a £50,000 grant from Playbuilder and contributions from Falmouth Town Council. The first phase is now complete and includes landscaping, footpaths and play equipment. The celebrations on 19th September heralded the beginning of phase two, which will include a creatively landscaped BMX track that uses recycled tyres and two old cars. The construction of which has been made possible by a £50,000 funding pot from Falmouth Town Council.
