University Housing Survey - April 2011

The survey was conducted during week commencing 4th April in several streets in some areas of the historic older part of the town where there is the main concentration of university student accommodation.

420 leaflets were posted through letter boxes door to door. There was no personal contact with residents. They were collected from respondents letter boxes the same evening, again without personal contact.

The result was:

120 supported the introduction of Article 4 direction and said that they thought Cornwall Council were wrong to oppose it.

Falmouth Twinning Association

New chairman and mascot for Falmouth Twinning.

Former Mayor of Falmouth, Cllr. Maureen Davies, has been elected chairman of Falmouth Twinning Association, taking over from Nigel Rimmer who becomes her deputy.

Maureen, pictured with her spaniel Henry - the new mascot of Falmouth Twinning - says that he has been practicing to sing/bark along to French tunes during committee meetings. “We are on the look out for other sociable souls to join us particularly to meet or host French visitors this autumn when there is a full programme of events and trips throughout the region.

Port of Falmouth Masterplan

The Port of Falmouth Development Initiative Steering Group is hosting a consultation event to seek your views on the Port of Falmouth Masterplan.

This will take place on:

Friday 18th March 10am – 7pm and

Saturday 19th March, 10am – 7pm.

The venue is Falmouth Watersports Centre, The Boat Park, Grove Place, Falmouth, TR11 4AU (next to Trago Mills store).

Fairtrade Fortnight: 28th Feb to 13th March

To celebrate Falmouth’s 6th year as a Fairtrade Town the Fairtrade Falmouth team have produced a programme of lively activities around Falmouth to highlight the importance of fair trading globally and locally.

The team will be providing tasters of Fairtrade Coffee, Tea, Wine, Chocolate and Biscuits from several diverse locations including The Farmers Market on 1st March and Phoenix Cinema on12th March.

The annual Coffee mornings at Methodist Church and All Saints Church and Tea Dance at St Mary’s Hall will provide opportunities for discussion and inspiration.

Falmouth & Penryn Household Waste Recycling Centre Opens

Residents living in the Falmouth & Penryn area can now take advantage of a new Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) which opened on Valentine’s Day.

Julian German, Cabinet Member for Waste Management, Climate Change and Historic Environment said: “This is a fantastic new facility which many people in the area have been looking forward to using. With thirteen HWRC’s across Cornwall we are making it easier and easier for residents to recycle as much as possible.”

Falmouth residents are urged to have their say on Houses in Multiple Occupation

If you would like to see the growth of houses of multiple occupation (HMO’s) in Falmouth managed effectively, this is your chance to have your say.

The Planning Policy Working Party members which included Falmouth and Penryn Town Councillors, Council Officers and a Community Plan representative, met earlier this month to plan the best way forward to manage the increasing number of multiple occupancy properties in the town and the Working Party agreed that Falmouth & Penryn should implement an Article 4 Direction to restrict HMO’s in and around Falmouth & Penryn.
