FALMOUTH CLERK WINS NATIONAL HONOUR

The National Association of Local Councils (NALC) has announced on 30th October 2017 the winners of the Star Councils 2017 awards. Falmouth Town Council Clerk Mark Williams was awarded UK Clerk of the Year. At the Awards Ceremony held in Milton Keynes NALC Chair Sue Baxter said ‘The awards highlight the good work local councils are doing across the country and this year has seen a record number of nominations, the standard of entries is a testament to councils’ dedication to improvement, community leadership and service delivery.

Vacancy - Town Team Property Maintenance Operative Apprenticeship

The Council is seeking to enhance the way it provides building/asset facilities management and environmental services; working with our partner Cornwall College there is an opportunity to take on an apprentice. You should have a passion for learning together with the will and capability to undertake a range of property maintenance & compliance testing duties as well as grounds maintenance operations, facilities cleansing, minor construction, event marshalling, with the flexibility to work some evenings and weekends as required.

Roundabout Sponsorship

In April 2017 Falmouth Town Council entered into an agreement with Cornwall Council to take over the management of 5 roundabouts in and around Falmouth; reductions in Cornwall Council’s available budget would otherwise see a decline in the standard of maintenance, leaving them looking unkempt at best or in the worst-case scenario planting schemes would be removed and roundabouts returned to grass.

Find out how you can sponsor a roundabout here!

Falmouth Town Council Recognised

The success of Falmouth Town Council in the National Association of Councils Star Councils Awards was recognised recently by the All Party Parliamentary Group at a local democracy reception in Westminster.

Having taken on local services to save them being lost, such as Falmouth Library, public toilets, CCTV and youth services, the Council was described as a beacon of excellence in joined up service delivery.

Public Conveniences

Apologies for the inconvenience: Please be aware that the Council is undergoing a redecoration programme for all of the Towns public toilets.

This means at various times in the coming weeks facilities will be unavailable.

Swanpool toilets are currently being refurbished. Next week will be Gyllyngvase and then Grove Place, Prince of Wales Pier and Webber Street in sequence.

Council Budget Setting

Unsurprisingly given the proximity of council elections, the Town Council has been made aware of misinformation regarding local funding that has been published.

To be clear: Falmouth Town Council has never set its budget in private. Nor has it ever limited any councillor or member of the public access to budget setting. That would not be legal. It is a participative process and all 16 councillors participated and decided budgets at meetings open to the public.
