RFA Sir Bedivere to undergo conversion work at Falmouth Docks

Town Mayor welcomes Commanding Officer, Captain Oscar Da Silva Filho of RFA Sir Bedivere to Falmouth.

Captain Oscar & Town Mayor

RFA Sir Bedivere recently arrived at Falmouth Docks to undergo conversion work for sale to the Brazilian Navy. The work, worth several million pounds, will last for six months and is as a major win for Falmouth Town and A&P Falmouth Docks. There are currently 21 Brazilian sailors in the advance party and this number will rise to over 120 by the end of May, when the ship will re-commission under the Brazilian Flag to become BNS ALMIRANTE SABOIA. All the Brazilian sailors come from Rio da Janeiro and many will be joined here by their families for Christmas.

Following RFA Sir Bedivere’s arrival into port the Town Mayor, Councillor Mike Varney, hosted a small reception in the Municipal Buildings followed by a lunch party in honour of the Ships Commanding Officer, Captain Oscar Da Silva Filho. The Mayor stated ‘I was delighted to be able to welcome Captain Oscar to Falmouth and I wish his Ships Company an enjoyable stay in the Town. The ships conversion work is a major contract that will benefit the Town as a whole and A&P have done a fantastic job in securing the works’.
