Falmouth Town Council has been recognised as a Quality Council

Town Mayor, Councillor Varney, stated ‘I am absolutely thrilled that the Town Council has received this award. The Council is the closest to the community, listens to its views and needs and articulates them to others and continues to have a central role in improving the quality of life. This is a perfect time for such recognition given the change to a Unitary Council, as this gives more weight to our call for assets and services to be delivered at a local level’.

Town Clerk, Mark Williams, added ‘After a great deal of hard work by Councillors and staff it is extremely rewarding to receive the badge of good practice which will be a useful tool for the Council in establishing its role in the new unitary structure’.

By meeting Quality Status requirements a Town Council is demonstrating that it is a worthy representative of all parts of the community, is effectively and properly managed, articulates the needs and wishes of the community and works with its partners as an effective information point for all local services.

In order to achieve Quality Status Town and Parish Councils must demonstrate that they have reached the standard required by passing several rigorous quality tests. These include: Qualifications of the Clerk; Communication and Community Engagement; Annual Report; Accounts; Code of Conduct; Promoting Local Democracy and Citizenship; Terms and Conditions and Training.
