Falmouth Week is always full of fun! Come and join us on The Moor for:
8th August
CARNIVAL WORKSHOP
10am -1pm
Drop in and help create something special for the Carnival procession. All ages and abilities are welcome, so bring the family and get stuck in.
Once the workshop creations are ready, gather at Falmouth Rugby Club from 6pm to join the Carnival procession, a colourful, community-spirited highlight of Falmouth Week.
10th – 14th August
ACTIVITY TENT
10am – 3pm
Free, drop-in creative family workshops inspired by our current exhibition, Mirrors: Reflecting on Identity, which brings together major loans and works by internationally significant artists exploring the question of who we are. The exhibition spans paintings, photographs and mixed-media works from the last century through to the present day, all exploring identity and how each of us works out who we are and how we want to be seen.
No booking required, just drop in any time between 10am and 3pm and get creative in response to the exhibition themes.
There will be a short break during the workshops where Kate from Falmouth Library will share fairytales and stories linked with the exhibition. Stories begin at 1pm every day, so bring your lunch and enjoy a tale or two. Stories for all ages and all welcome.
And remember, Falmouth Art Gallery offers free admission, so if the workshop sparks your curiosity, pop inside afterwards to see Mirrors for yourself.

MUSEUMS CORNER
10am – 3pm
Drop by the stand on The Moor to find out more about Cornish heritage, no booking required, just pop along any time between 10am and 3pm (with a short break from 12:15 to 12:45).
Mon 10th: Wheal Martyn
Kicking off Museums Corner is Wheal Martyn, Cornwall’s only china clay mining museum. Based at a preserved Victorian clay works near St Austell, Wheal Martyn tells the story of Cornwall’s largest mining industry, the china clay trade that shaped the landscape, lives, and economy of Clay Country for over 250 years.
Tue 11th: Museum of Cornish Life
Tuesday’s Museums Corner welcomes the Museum of Cornish Life, based in Helston’s historic Market Buildings. Home to one of the largest social history collections in the South West, the museum tells the story of Cornish life from the 18th to the 20th century, from mining, fishing, and farming through to home life, with treasures ranging from an enormous cider press to a fully stocked 1950s kitchen.
Wed 12th: Penlee House
Wednesday brings Penlee House Gallery & Museum to Museums Corner, set within a beautiful sub-tropical park in Penzance. Penlee House is the only public gallery in Cornwall dedicated to the art of West Cornwall, celebrated for its collection of paintings by the Newlyn School and Lamorna artists, alongside a museum covering over 6,000 years of local history, from remarkable archaeological finds to social history and fashion.
Thu 13th: PK Porthcurno & Bodmin Keep
Thursday’s Museums Corner brings a double bill, with PK Porthcurno, Museum of Global Communications, and Bodmin Keep, Cornwall’s Army Museum, both joining us on The Moor across the day.
PK Porthcurno tells the extraordinary story of how a quiet Cornish valley became a global communications hub, from the arrival of the first undersea telegraph cable in 1870 through to today’s fibre optics, with tales of the top-secret WWII bunker cut into the valley’s granite along the way.
Bodmin Keep, housed in a Grade II listed Victorian keep and the former home of the Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry, tells over 300 years of Cornish military history through thousands of artefacts, from uniforms and medals to historic weaponry and personal stories of ordinary people in extraordinary times.
Fri 14th: Penryn Museum
Rounding off the week is Penryn Museum, run by dedicated local volunteers and housed in Penryn’s historic Town Hall. The museum tells the story of one of Cornwall’s most ancient towns, once a major medieval port and later a thriving centre for the granite trade, with a collection ranging from original stonework recovered from the medieval Glasney College to vintage toys, old fire appliances, and historic photographs charting Penryn’s colourful past.
