Pupils from Constantine School and Penryn Primary School have helped bring this year’s Falmouth Spring Flower Show to life after visiting the Princess Pavilion in October last year to plant wallflowers in the flowerbeds around the lawn and bandstand, under the guidance of Falmouth Town Council gardener Pat.

The pupils recently returned to see the flowers in bloom and used them as inspiration for artwork that will be displayed during the show. Their involvement highlights how the long-running event continues to encourage younger generations to engage with gardening, creativity and the natural environment.

Organised by Falmouth Town Council, the 116th Falmouth Spring Flower Show will take place this weekend on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 March at the Princess Pavilion. The free event celebrates the arrival of spring with floral displays, horticultural exhibits and a wide range of show classes for all ages.

The second day of the show coincides with National Daffodil Day (22 March), and daffodils feature prominently throughout the show programme, with numerous competitive classes dedicated to the flower alongside the South West Daffodil Group Challenge.

This year’s show features 870 entries from 95 exhibitors, showcasing a wide variety of flowers and plants grown by gardeners, horticultural societies and specialist growers from across Cornwall. In response to the growing number of school and children’s exhibits, a marquee will also be introduced in the courtyard at the Princess Pavilion to provide additional space for displays.

Visitors will be able to browse 18 trade stands offering plants, bulbs, succulents, garden accessories and expert advice from local growers and garden suppliers, while the four acres of Gyllyngdune Gardens surrounding the Princess Pavilion provide space for a stroll and refreshments at The Garden Room café.

Local outdoor learning providers Taller Than Trees will be running bushcraft workshops for children and adults, giving visitors the opportunity to learn practical outdoor skills and develop a greater connection with nature through hands-on activities.

The Falmouth Spring Flower Show dates back to the early 1900s, when it served as the traditional opening of Cornwall’s gardening season. Following many years of stewardship by the Falmouth Spring Flower Show CommitteeFalmouth Town Council now manages the event, ensuring the show continues to celebrate horticulture while welcoming new generations of exhibitors and visitors.

Residents and visitors are invited to attend and enjoy a weekend celebrating the colour and variety of spring flowers. For more information, including the full schedule, please visit the Falmouth Spring Flower Show page on the Princess Pavilion website.
