The Mayor’s Biography
Alan Jewell was born in 1966 at Redruth Maternity unit and has lived at Pennance Mill Farm in Falmouth his entire life, where his Grandfather settled in 1929.
Alan attended Marlborough infant school and then Wellington and Clare Terrace Junior School before going to Falmouth Comprehensive. In his last year of school, aged fifteen, his father was taken seriously ill and Alan had to take on the running of the farm milking the cows before and after school, an occupation he carried on until 2003.
Alan left school at sixteen and then attended Camborne Technical College to study Agriculture on a day release course for six years where he achieved a City and Guilds Phase Four in Farm Management. During this time Alan was heavily involved in Cornwall Young Farmers Clubs eventually becoming Chair in 1988. During that time Alan met his wife Vanessa through the Young Farmers and they have been married since 1991. They have two daughters, one works as a Planning Officer in London and the other for a local Solicitor.
Alan has been a past Secretary of West Cornwall Grassland Society and is still a current member.
Alan was first elected as a Town Councillor in 2009 and he has previously been and is currently Chair of the Town Council Planning & Licensing Committee. He also served as a Cornwall Councillor from 2013 until 2025 and was Chair of the Central Cornwall Planning Committee.
As the longest current serving Town Councillor Alan is honoured to be Town Mayor and he is truly humbled to take on the Mayoral Office and he will endeavour to help wherever he can in making Falmouth the town that he loves a great place to live, work and enjoy.
Alan’s charity for the year is Pendennis Leisure a charity set up to transform Pendennis Community Centre, formerly known as Ships & Castles, into a new 25 metre swimming pool and a multi-use leisure centre. Alan is hoping to raise vital funds to make a new pool for Falmouth a reality.
