‼️ Public Safety Update: Storm Damage at Falmouth Cemeteries ‼️
Falmouth Town Council is advising members of the public of ongoing safety works at Falmouth Cemeteries following damage caused by Storm Goretti.
Old Cemetery – Closed to the Public
Falmouth’s Old Cemetery is currently closed to the public due to a number of dangerous trees identified following Storm Goretti. Safety assessments and essential works are underway.
Members of the public are asked NOT TO ENTER THE OLD CEMETERY until further notice while these works are carried out.
Lawn Cemetery – Remains Open
The Lawn Cemetery remains open. However, several trees have fallen as a result of the storm.
Visitors are asked to take care when visiting the site and to refrain from climbing on or around fallen trees.
Our grounds team and Cemetery Officer will continue to compile piles of brash around the cemetery as clearance works progress. Once all clearance has been completed, a wood chipper will be brought in to process this material.
Larger tree trunks will require specialist assistance, as the Council does not have the appropriate equipment to safely deal with trunks of this size. We ask for the public’s patience and understanding while clearance and safety works are ongoing across the cemetery, particularly where specialist assistance is required.
Gravestones
Assessments of any gravestones affected by the storm are continuing as works progress. In cases where graves have been damaged, and where the Council holds relevant contact details, relatives will be contacted directly.
Ongoing Works
Falmouth Town Council thanks the public for their patience and understanding while clearance, assessments and safety works are ongoing across both cemeteries.
