One of Falmouth’s much-loved community activities — the Tide Race — made a welcome return to Maenporth Beach on Sunday 27 August.

The event was revived by the Mayor of Falmouth, Cllr Alan Jewell, to raise funds for Pendennis Leisure, a registered charity formed by residents of Falmouth, Penryn and surrounding villages and the Mayor’s chosen charity for 2025/2026. Pendennis Leisure is working towards reopening the Ships & Castles site as a sustainable swimming and leisure facility for the community, while currently running it as the Pendennis Community Centre, a hub for local activities and events.

Families, friends and community groups came together to take on the challenge of building sandcastles and sea defences before the tide rolled in. The event was enjoyed by all who took part and raised £530 so far in support of Pendennis Leisure’s important work.

Mayor Jewell said:

“It was fantastic to see so many people getting involved and enjoying themselves at the Tide Race. A big thank you to everyone who took part, and to Cllr Dean Evans, Cllr Gavin Andrewartha, and Maenporth’s Life’s a Beach Café for their support.”

Falmouth Town Council would like to thank all those who supported and participated in this successful community event.
