Our food choices can make a positive difference to people and nature – improving our own health, the health of others, and the health of the planet.

But over-dependence on select foods, a lack of diversity in our diets and the continued consumption of unsustainably produced items have a harmful impact on nature.

We try to support local businesses that provide a wide variety of foods which are better for the natural environment and biodiversity, in terms of how they are produced, processed and distributed. In particular, we encourage consumption of independently verified (credibly certified) sustainably produced food.

Falmouth Food Co-op

Falmouth Food Co-op started as a Food Hub selling groceries with the aim of making good food available to all and supporting local non-industrial farmers.

They  then started a Kitchen to celebrate the community and feed those who need help.

And now the co-op has acquired a community field outside Penryn to grow food.  Volunteers are welcome to come along to Loveland at one of their regular sessions.

Local Food Guide

Transition Falmouth has put together a guide which aims to encourage people to buy from local food resources which will keep food miles to a minimum. Small and medium-sized Cornish food and drink producers, wholesalers and retailers make a significant contribution to the local economy and the environment.

Fresh Cornish produce at these retailers usually has less packaging, helping to reduce waste and to create a cleaner and more sustainable environment. Fewer food miles travelled means less carbon emissions and therefore a lower impact on our climate.
