Universities showcase creativity and lift the lid on research for the local community

University College Falmouth and the University of Exeter, who share and jointly manage the Tremough Campus in Penryn, will be showcasing creativity, originality and ground-breaking research in all sorts of ways for the local community and visitors to the town to enjoy between 10am and 4pm on Saturday 19 May 2012.

From performances and photography to dolphin monitoring equipment and marine energy test devices, there will be a whole host of things for all the family to see and do at two pop-up venues in the town throughout the day.

The University of Exeter is to host an exhibition on the Prince of Wales Pier that gives a flavour of business knowledge exchange projects and its work at the new £30 million Environment and Sustainability Institute (ESI) that opens at the Tremough Campus later this year.  Academics, researchers and students from across the Campus will be on-hand to demonstrate research in action and how it impacts positively on the local community. 

“This exhibition is all about lifting the lid on cutting-edge research projects that make a real difference to people’s lives and our local community,” explains the University of Exeter’s Communications and Marketing Manager, Susie Smith.  “There will be fun things to interact with and fascinating examples of how we engage with businesses, so we hope that as many people as possible will come along and find out more about our work at the University’s Cornwall Campus at Tremough.”

At Events Square, Discovery Quay, there will be creativity and flair a-plenty with a series of short dance and music performances by students from University College Falmouth.

A photographic exhibition that reflects the range of sporting activity within the local community and the latest in performance sportswear design will also further highlight the wealth of talent and innovation to be found at Falmouth’s specialist University College.

“As well as bringing what we do to the heart of the community and sharing our students’ creativity with people in the town, we will also be offering fun, family-orientated activities for visitors of all ages to try,” added University College Falmouth’s Acting Director of Marketing, Chris Harrison. “We will also have representatives from our new £9M Academy for Innovation & Research showing how we engage with local businesses and make a positive impact on our region’s economy, so if you have a great business idea to share with us, we hope you’ll join us too.”
