SOUTH WEST IN BLOOM AWARDS 2018

Representatives from Falmouth attended the Southwest in Bloom awards in Yeovil and came away with a number of prestigious awards. Falmouth was awarded the RHS Gold medal in the most competitive category of the day and were up against many other towns, 5 of which also achieved Gold medal standard. Falmouth came out as overall winners and awarded the Portman Cup which should see Falmouth entered in the Champions of Champions category for 2019. Falmouth shared the Sargent Trophy awarded to the town ‘for outstanding effort and dedication from a main entry”. Then to put the icing on the cake Falmouth was also awarded the Plantscape Trophy for the best seaside entry. A number of local community groups were awarded It’s Your Neighbourhood certificates and these will be handed out to the groups at a reception held by the Mayor in November. Simon Penna, Grounds and Facilities Manager, said ”thank you to every one of you for all your hard work throughout the year and for supporting Falmouth’s entry to this year’s In Bloom awards, it was an absolute privilege to be able to show both the Southwest and National judges our fantastic town that certainly looked at its very best on both days. However as the saying goes “beauty is only skin-deep,” because what really blows the judges away is the wonderful community spirit that gels us all in a common sense of purpose that is our love of Falmouth”. We now await the results from the Britain In Bloom awards which take place in Belfast on 19th October.
