Play Begins at Kimberly Park

The dreams of the Kimberly Park Association will finally be realised as work on the new play area in Kimberly Park commences on Monday 20th August.

The project has been made a reality as a result of a strong partnership between the Kimberly Park Association, Falmouth Town Council and Groundwork.  Together they formed a project team, which has raised over £200,000 for the play area which will see the transformation of a currently underused green space into a vibrant, bustling park through the installation of an adventurous and challenging play space for children of all ages.

Funding for the Play Area has been secured from Falmouth Town Council, Cornwall Council, Community Spaces, Britvic’s Transform Your Patch fund, Cory Environmental Trust, A&P Falmouth, plus funds raised at community events by Kimberly Park Association.  Earthwrights, a South West based play company, will be installing the play scheme, and will be taking up residence in the Kimberly Park Lodge for the duration of the works.

Ruth Thomas from Falmouth Town Council said ‘It’s great to see that this project is finally being delivered. Falmouth Town Council is grateful to all of its partners on this project who have been truly committed to delivering a play scheme that it is sure will be welcomed by many and prove to be a wonderful enhancement to the park for years to come’.

Janey Davis from the Kimberly Park Association said ‘The Association and so many people in Falmouth have worked really hard to achieve so much, and today is the culmination of all of those efforts. We are so excited that in a matter of weeks we will have a fantastic play area for the children to enjoy. We intend to make this a place we are all really proud of, and somewhere that will really stand out. It's such a beautiful park already, it will be great for families to be able to stop and enjoy the surroundings.

James Brown, the Landscape Architect for the project said ‘"The aim is to create within a historic and beautiful park a space that offers enjoyable, attractive and interesting play and recreation for visitors. Referencing Falmouth’s nautical location and Cornwall’s unique identity, the play area combines vegetation and planting, earth form, natural materials and imaginative play structures to provide a range of experiences from active to more contemplative. Features include a sensory trail, nautical sand play for toddlers, a variety of climbing, balancing, swing and sliding activities, and places to sit, meet, shelter and enjoy the park."

Nicola Davey, Groundwork’s Operations Manager said ‘it’s taken a lot of hard work to get to this point, the commitment and dedication of the partners involved has been incredible.  It’s so exciting to see work finally starting in the Park!’
