Mike Rangecroft thanked for his contribution to Falmouth

Falmouth’s previous Town Mayor Grenville Chappel recently thanked Mike Rangecroft for his contribution towards the vitality of the town, with a celebratory lunch in the Mayor’s Parlour. Grenville said; “ Falmouth Town Council wanted to thank Mike for all his hard work and commitment to developing a great number of successful events in Falmouth over so many years. The Council wishes Mike all the best in his retirement”. Mike came to Falmouth in 1960 having being assigned a ship as a first trip navigating apprentice with the BP Tanker Company. Little did he know that eleven years later he would move to Falmouth with a young family that would lead to a diverse career in the marine leisure business, culminating in 30 years of maritime events management. Some of the highlights include: Co-founding and chairing the Falmouth Classics in 1989, Operations Director of the Cutty Sark Talls Ships Race 1998, a co-founding member of the Falmouth International Maritime Initiative that led to the creating of the NMMC and the Events Square entertainment centre. The first big event on Events Square being the return of Ellen MacArthur from her round the world race, and in the subsequent 15 years, the Falmouth Week Entertainment Programme and the Falmouth Oyster Festival. Asked for his comments in summing it all up he says “ I’ve always been well supported by good teams and associates over the years”. Mike added “ My maxim being you have to enjoy your own party! That has been important.” Mike is now retiring from the festival scene and his commitments with Events Square but he has been made Honorary Chairman of Falmouth Oyster Festival, and will continue to support this event having been instrumental in developing it to the success it is today.
