Launch of the Falmouth and Penryn Community Plan public consultation

This week every household in Falmouth and Penryn should receive a new copy of the 'Fathom' newspaper published by Falmouth Town Council.

This new edition however is rather special, as the paper has been given over in its entirety to a public consultation on the proposals for the Falmouth and Penryn Community Plan.

Community Plan Co-ordinator Ray Tovey said ‘this is a real opportunity for residents of Falmouth and Penryn to advise how they want to see their communities develop and grow. I hope they will grasp the opportunity’.

The proposals are the results of the work undertaken to date by the Community Plan Management Group and members of the Falmouth and Penryn community, working in ten different topic areas to prepare a long-term plan for the future of the two towns. The proposals are spelt out in detail in this latest edition of Fathom, and a special questionnaire invites householders, businesses, community groups and organisations in the two towns, and in the surrounding parishes, to comment on each and every proposal, helping the Management Group prioritise their actions over the next 5-15 years.

Collection boxes will be placed in 16 locations in both towns to receive peoples' comments, and in addition we will be hosting drop-in events in the week of 18-25th May at two locations: one at Events Square, Discovery Quay, Falmouth- in premises next to The Shed restaurant; and the other at 8-10 Lower Market Street, Penryn.

Our purpose in undertaking this major consultation exercise, using 'Fathom,' is to let everyone in Falmouth and Penryn know about, and have the opportunity to comment on, the proposals contained within the Plan: we want as much feedback as possible. The Community Plan will be used to inform local and regional authorities about the wishes and expectations of the community, input into the new Community Networks, identify local priorities for action, and provide the platform for community-led projects and associated funding applications.

The Plan is community-led, supported by Falmouth Town Council, who have willingly dedicated this third edition of 'Fathom' specifically to the Plan, and by Penryn Town Council, Falmouth Town Forum, Cornwall Council, University College Falmouth and the University of Exeter in Cornwall, Penryn Vision, Falmouth Harbour Commissioners, and others.

If you have not received a copy of the consultation edition of Fathom please contact the Council Offices on 01326 315559.
