HMS Severn Commanding Officer calls in on the Town Mayor

Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Commander Steven Banfield of HMS Severn received a warm welcome from the Town Mayor, Councillor John Body and his wife Linda, during its visit to Falmouth this month. The welcoming party also included the Town Clerk, Mark Williams and Falmouth’s Deputy Royal Naval Liaison Officer, Sub Lt Phil Reid.

HMS Severn, a River Class Offshore Patrol Vessel has been undergoing a routine maintenance period in Falmouth with A&P.

The Portsmouth based ship is one of three River Class Offshore Patrol Vessels, designed to patrol our Exclusive Economic Zone (200 Nautical Miles offshore) and provide a permanent Royal Navy presence in our sovereign waters around the UK.  She routinely undertakes Search and Rescue operations alongside her normal duties of providing Marine Enforcement around the UK.

HMS Severn will return to her core tasking this week before relocating to the North Sea to conduct a joint operation with the Dutch Marine Enforcement Authorities.

The Town Mayor stated ‘I was honoured to be able to host an evening reception in the Council Offices for Lt Commander Banfield to officially welcome the HMS Severn to Falmouth.
