Former Post Office

Following community consultations around the future delivery of Council services from The Moor, and the community’s request for more meeting space, Falmouth Town Council have taken the ground breaking step of acquiring the former Post Office. This is to ensure the iconic building was not lost to residential development. It will also enable the Council to provide public meeting rooms and space. It will also ensure The Moor remains as the hub for the delivery of municipal services.

Councillor Candy Atherton, Chairman of the Council’s Finance and General Purposes Committee stated ‘I am very pleased as this move will ensure the Council is in a better position to cope with the additional demands and responsibilities that is placed upon it as Cornwall Council and other community partners shrink their service delivery locally. It meets a community need and crucially the acquisition will be cost neutral to the local taxpayer’

Town Mayor, Councillor John Body said ‘This is an unusual step for a Council but a very necessary one. It will appropriately protect the future of this attractive and historically important building to Falmouth and enables the Council to rationalise uses in the Municipal Buildings to extend the Falmouth Art Gallery, protect the future of the library and house other point of contact Council services. I would like to thank all helped make this happen, it wasn’t an easy process, including the intervention of our local MP Sarah Newton’.
