First Poppy Laying

The Mayor, Councillor Grenville Chappel, laid the first poppy at the Remembrance Garden, The Municipal Buildings on Friday to mark the start of this year Acts of Remembrance. A small service was attended by Councillors, Veterans and members of the public. This year’s Acts of Remembrance marks 100 years since the end of the First World War. To commemorate this special anniversary the town is being decorated with 228 large poppies by way of a Big Thank You, each one dedicated to the name of the fallen who are remembered on the war memorial in Kimberley Park. The park itself is also being decorated with hundreds of knitted and crocheted poppies. The town’s Annual Service of Remembrance will be held at the Kimberley Park War Memorial on Sunday 11th November at 11am. All are welcome.
