Falmouth Town Shoppers Shuttle Bus

Falmouth Town Shoppers Shuttle to continue beyond April.

Following a special meeting held last night to brief Councillors on the Falmouth Shoppers’ Shuttle Bus, there was a unanimous decision from all Councillors present to underwrite the expenses of the service until at least the end of June.

Since starting in January of this year, the service has carried over 12,000 passengers and has become an established part of the Town’s infrastructure.

Commenting on the decision, Town Mayor Mike Varney said that he was absolutely delighted with the decision and particularly proud of the way the Councillors had handled the decision making process. He further commented “ I believe that this minibus operation truly reflects the type of Public Service that should be provided by the Town Council and everyone hopes that it will be made long-term. It also has the potential of ‘joining up’ the two key parts of our Town Centre into one.”

During the newly extended operating period, steps will be taken to evaluate with partners, the feasibility of continuing the service and also, to look at route enhancement, timing and costing options, with a view to extending it on a year round circular route basis through the main street and returning via the Dell Railway station to the Quarry Car Park.

Ben Moore of service operator Penmere Minibus Services said “Over the last four months, we have built up a mix of loyal regulars and delighted visitors and there is no doubt in my mind that the route is invaluable for the many people who would choose to leave their cars at the Quarry Car Park or simply rely on the increasing range of Public transport.”
