Falmouth Town Manager Post is secured

Following intensive and constructive consultations between Falmouth Town Council, Carrick District Council and endorsement by Falmouth Town Councillors, the Town Centre Manager’s post has been reinstated and will now become a permanent job under the control of the Town Council.

Existing joint Carrick/FTC funding will continue until April 2009 and future funding after that date will be subject to developments with the new Unitary Authority, when they are known.

Falmouth Town Council will now commence the process to advertise and select a permanent candidate for this post, with a target of having the candidate in place by June of this year.

In the meantime, David Pollard has been appointed as Acting Manager, with effect from 1st March. David, who is well known in the Town for his voluntary activities including the Rotary Club of Falmouth and as leader of the Falmouth Pride Ambassadors, stated that he was honoured to take over the interim function, but realised that he was following a ‘Giant’ of a predecessor in the Late David Lang.

Commenting on the confirmation of the permanent Town Centre Manager function, Town Mayor Michael Varney said ‘firstly, I would like to thank Carrick District Council personnel and Falmouth Town Councillors for supporting this decision and transferring the responsibility solely to the Town Council. Secondly, at this very exciting time for our town, this is yet more evidence of the growing drive to move forward Falmouth and make its community more in control of its destiny.’

Despite the absence of a Town Centre Manager for several months, Clerical Assistant Ruth Abrahams has continued to operate the office, which can be contacted on 01326 313553. Ruth can be emailed on ruth@falmouth.co.uk and David on david@falmouth.co.uk after 1st March.
