Falmouth in Bloom Success

Falmouth has built on its unprecedented success of four Green Flag Awards in 2012 by being recognised as the Best SeasideTown in the South West at the Royal Horticultural Society’s In Bloom Awards.

The Town Mayor collected the trophy at the ceremony in Weston Supermare on Thursday from Ann Swithinbank from BBC Gardens Questiontime. The Town also scooped further success by winning gold award in its category. The school gardeners at King Charles Primary School were acknowledged as outstanding and received a Neighbourhood Award as did the Falmouth and District Allotments and Gardens Society.

In announcing the Awards John Wheatley, Chairman of South West in Bloom, stated that ‘the municipal parks in Falmouth were amongst the best I have seen’ and the Falmouth entry truly demonstrated community partnership’.

Town Mayor Councillor Geoffrey Evans said ‘I was honoured to collect the trophy as it is recognition of the huge efforts by the whole Falmouth community. The Town Council have supported many community groups who all contributed to this success. I wish to thank them all as well as our grounds contractors Cormac Solutions Ltd, whose gardeners deserve immense credit for their efforts’.

Viv Bidgood for Cormac said ‘The awards really acknowledge the developed partnership working arrangement that we enjoy with Falmouth Town Council and I'm delighted that our staff and volunteers have been singled out for their efforts.  The result is all the more impressive when considering the current economic climate and the fact that resources are tight.  This demonstrates the Cormac "can do" attitude and just goes to show the passion and commitment we have from our staff.’

Everyone is now looking forward to 2013 where the success can be continued.
