Falmouth’s Business Improvement District welcomes new Project Manager

The Board of Falmouth’s Business Improvement District (BID) welcomes a new Project Manager this month to facilitate the delivery of its objectives.

Richard Wilcox is the new head at the helm and he brings to the role a wealth of tourism and marketing experience as well as a passion for Falmouth, a comprehensive knowledge of Cornwall and a proven track record of hitting the ground running.

The 153 businesses that voted in the Falmouth BID scheme last spring endorsed a series of proposals designed to enhance the trading environment of the town by encouraging residents to support local businesses and persuading visitors to sample Falmouth’s authentic and creative atmosphere.

Richard’s previous role was Business Development Manager for VisitCornwall where he led tourism marketing and business development for Newquay, which included the launch of the award-winning VisitNewquay website (www.visitnewquay.org), as well as a raft of other promotional initiatives designed to reposition the town as a family-friendly resort.

Prior to that, Richard was Tourism Champion for the Isles of Scilly with responsibility for overseeing the strategic planning, marketing and tourism initiatives for the Islands.

“With Richard’s wealth of experience in destination marketing and the tourism industry, he is ideally placed to deliver the manifesto for Falmouth that was voted in by local businesses last spring,” said Chair of the Falmouth BID Board, Nigel Carpenter. “Our talented and experienced Board of volunteer Directors has been hard at work behind-the-scenes to ensure that the infrastructure is in place to support the physical manifestation of the Falmouth BID projects. These include the launch of a new brand identity for the town, an array of physical improvements, a new website and the enhanced promotion of existing festivals and events, and we look forward to working with Richard and other partners in the town to raise Falmouth’s profile amongst local people and visitors alike.”

“I am delighted to take up this challenge and am committed to delivering what the businesses of Falmouth really want,” added Richard. “I look forward to meeting all those who contribute financially to the scheme in the coming weeks and to working with all stakeholders to realise our collective aspirations for the town.”

Richard takes up his new role on Monday 1 March 2010 and can be contacted in the Town Manager’s Office by telephoning 01326 313553 or by emailing richardw@falmouth.co.uk
