Council Budget Setting

Unsurprisingly given the proximity of council elections, the Town Council has been made aware of misinformation regarding local funding that has been published.

To be clear: Falmouth Town Council has never set its budget in private. Nor has it ever limited any councillor or member of the public access to budget setting. That would not be legal. It is a participative process and all 16 councillors participated and decided budgets at meetings open to the public.

Budgets are set according to the requests of our residents. In recent years you asked us to retain the library (over 3,000 of you), to create an Article 4 and Neighbourhood Plan (over 1,500 of you), to retain public toilets, to provide CCTV, youth services, improved parks and gardens, tackle highway weeds etc.

That cost has been prudent. Not £100s. Over 5 years for a Band D resident it has been £96. That is £19 a year. 5p per day.

Residents should establish and verify the facts before forming your opinions over the forthcoming elections and in respect of the quality of service you receive from your Council.
