Cemetery of the Year Awards

Falmouth Town Council enters Swanpool Cemetery into Cemetery of the Year Awards under the Cemeteries between 5 to 15 acres category.

The Town Council’s Sexton, Lee Mitchell, has entered the Cemetery into four award categories, Award for Community Involvement, ICCM Award for most Improved Cemetery and ICCM Award for Cemetery Operatives Team of the Year.

Lee Mitchell stated ‘The Cemetery of the Year Awards is an annual competition that is open to all burial sites in the UK. I believe that our cemetery deserves recognition for its unique setting and ambiance which has been enhanced by ongoing improvements and constant maintenance programmes’.

Judging is scheduled to take place in August with only one weeks notice with a prize giving event due to take place in the late Autumn.

Current ongoing works in the cemetery include hedge and pathway improvements to the Children’s and Baby section in addition to surface improvements to the entrance of the new cemetery and areas covering the old cemetery. Works will continue beyond the competition through to the end of the year.

The Council has invested significant funds over several years into the site which has bought it to a standard where it is felt worthy of such recognition.

Visitors to the cemetery are requested to adhere to the cemetery regulations at all times by keeping dogs on leads, turning car stereos off, using bins provided for water containers and litter and by paying particular respect when graveside services are taking place.
