Cemetery Gate has Disappeared

A gate worth £585.00 has been stolen from Falmouth Cemetery just over a year after it was installed.

The gate was put up at the cemetery during refurbishment work carried out by the council last year and is believed to have been stolen sometime between Friday, January 19th, and Sunday January 21st.

Lee Mitchell, Council Sexton said “The gate was situated at the rear of the new cemetery and opened on the Captain’s Walk. It is quite a sturdy gate and would have taken two people to carry it away. It is very disheartening when something like this happens”.

Lee added that the gate had been there On Friday but when he arrived at the cemetery on the Monday morning it had disappeared.

The gate is around 5ft 10in high and 2ft 6in wide and is painted black.

Anyone with any information as to its whereabouts should contact Falmouth Town Council on 01326 315559.

Following the publication of the above story the gate was anonymously returned. A demonstration of the power of the press.
