‘Celebrating Falmouth’ Book is Launched

A new book that celebrates Falmouth past and present will be unveiled in the Council Chamber on Wednesday 14 December at 11am.

Lavishly illustrated with photographs of Falmouth in times gone by alongside modern-day views, ‘Celebrating Falmouth’ is a fitting finale to a year of celebration marking the 350th anniversary of the Town Charter.

‘Celebrating Falmouth’ shows the changes that have taken place in Falmouth over the years. Written by historian Michael Bradley, the book has been produced by Falmouth Town Council with support from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

‘Celebrating Falmouth’ was inspired by the Tercentenary Book given out to school children to mark the 300th anniversary of the Charter in 1961. Councillor David Saunby, who helped put this new book together, received his copy when he was a pupil at Trescobeas Secondary Modern School. He says, “I am very glad that I kept it safe for the last 50 years as it brings back fond memories of my childhood spent in Falmouth. I sincerely hope that you will be able to look back in 50 years time and say the same.”

Three thousand copies of ‘Celebrating Falmouth’ will be personally signed by the Mayor Geoffrey Evans and given to Falmouth school children to mark Falmouth 350 year. The rest will be on sale at the Art Gallery and in selected stores around Falmouth for £5.00 making it the perfect gift for Christmas!
