Falmouth Library unveils children’s summer activities programme
Falmouth Library today announces its programme of children’s summer activities which will take place in the newly renovated, family-friendly children’s library space.
Free creative activities will take place on Tuesdays throughout the summer school holiday break from 2-3.30pm. The workshops celebrate the ‘Story Garden – Adventures in Nature and the Great Outdoors’ theme of this year’s Summer Reading Challenge, presented by The Reading Agency in partnership with libraries.

Local artist Sam Bradbury will lead the weekly activities, which include:
29th July | Hanging library bird sculptures – made from strips of fancy card and upcycled damaged books |
5th August | Colourful dandelion drawings – white and colourful chalk on black paper and see if it glows under UV light! |
12th August | Pebble people – paint with sponges to create rock people, decorate with moss and lichen before adding faces |
19th August | Create a bee window decoration – use colourful acetate and card to make a shining bee |
26th August | The Very Hungry Caterpillar – use different shapes to print your own hungry caterpillar |
While visiting the Library, children aged 4-11 can register for the Summer Reading Challenge which invites them to set a reading goal and collect rewards for reading the books they enjoy. It also encourages them to keep reading throughout the summer holiday period to set them up for a great start to the Autumn term.
Library Manager Jayne Cardew says: “It has been wonderful to see so many local families dropping in since we opened the new children’s library space. We had a record first day of sign-ups for the Summer Reading Challenge, and we’re looking to keep that excitement for reading going through the coming weeks. It’s not too late to sign up for the Challenge, so why not visit the Library for one of our creative activities and join in!”
