VJ Day 80 Commemorations

Please join us on Friday 15 August 2025 as we mark the 80th anniversary of Victory over Japan Day, honouring those who served and sacrificed during the Far East campaign of the Second World War.

The commemoration events will begin at 9:00am with the raising of the VJ Day 80 flag at the Municipal Building.
Town Mayor, Cllr Alan Jewell, will say a few words to mark the occasion. (Please note, no official proclamation will take place.)

Later in the morning, a Commemoration Service will be held at the Memorial Garden in Kimberley Park.
Please arrive by 10:45am – the service will begin at 11:00am.

The service will be led by Reverend Robert Jackson, Royal Navy Chaplain at RNAS Culdrose.

Wreaths will be laid by representatives of:

  • The Lieutenancy on behalf of His Majesty The King
  • The Town Mayor
  • The Military
  • Falmouth Royal Naval Association (on behalf of Veterans)
  • A&P Falmouth (on behalf of the civilian population)

Everyone is welcome to attend both events.

In the event of adverse weather or other unforeseen circumstances, a cancellation decision will be made by midday on Thursday 14 August and shared via our website and social media.
