🇬🇧🇫🇷 The Mayor and Mayoress of Falmouth were honoured to attend commemorations in Saint-Nazaire on 28 March, marking the 84th anniversary of Operation Chariot—the daring 1942 raid on the St Nazaire docks during the Second World War.

The programme included a formal remembrance service at the historic port, where the Mayor laid a wreath in tribute to those who lost their lives. During the ceremony, Anne Mitchell MBE, Chair of the St Nazaire Society, delivered an address reflecting on the significance of the occasion.

The visit also featured an official reception at the Town Hall with civic leaders and partner organisations.

During their time in Saint-Nazaire, the Mayor and Mayoress met with José Lhinores, President of the St Nazaire Twinning Association, and were given a guided tour of the city by Vice President Sophie Mauduit, including the historic docks.

The commemorations provided an opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices made, while reinforcing the strong and longstanding links between our two communities.

We extend our thanks to our hosts in Saint-Nazaire for their warm welcome and for organising a meaningful programme of events.
