Falmouth's entrance into this years Cemetery of the Year Awards for the first time has had a successful result with the Cemetery taking third place.

Falmouth cemetery was among five finalists from a list of 11 entrants in the category for cemeteries between five and fifteen acres. The other cemeteries that were shortlisted were Bear Street Cemetery in Barnstable, Hoddeson Cemetery in Hertfordshire, Redstone Cemetery in Surrey and Torrisholme Cemetery in Lancashire.

The Council's Sexton, Lee Mitchell attended the ICCM seminar at the end of September where the awards were announced and he received the 3rd place award which is classed as an honourable mention.

The aim of the competition which is organised by the Memorial Awareness Board is to increase the public’s awareness of the importance that burial sites can play in local communities.
