Community creates safe space for those in need at night

Saturday 10th November saw the introduction of a new partnership and night time service in Falmouth’s town centre.

Falmouth’s Safe Space scheme provides help to those who need it late at night whether through drink, drugs, an incident or medical need.

The Falmouth Safe Space scheme will operate from the Methodist Church foyer on The Moor every Saturday between 10.30pm and 3am, and ensure that vulnerable people are cared for in a safe, well-equipped and secure environment.

Falmouth: ‘Punching well above its weight’ at International Urbanism Awards

Entrepreneurialism and an innovative approach to Town Management put Falmouth in the spotlight at the prestigious 2013 Urbanism Awards in London on Friday 9th November.  Shortlisted for The Great Town award for the very first time, Falmouth was singled-out for its highly effective Town Team (the Falmouth BID and Falmouth Town Council) who work alongside many town partners, whose drive and professionalism was credited as an excellent example of good urban practice. 

Carnon Carers Group Christmas Lunch with the Mayor

The Town Mayor, Councillor Geoffrey Evans, welcomed the Carnon Carers Group to the Council Offices this month for a Christmas Lunch. The Carers provided the food and the Mayor provided the refreshments.

The Town Mayor said ‘We had the most fantastic lunch which was all homemade by each of the members of the Group. I even got to try Russian Cream for the first time which was truly delicious. I was honoured to be able to provide the refreshments for the Group who provide a fantastic support network to members of our community’.

University College Falmouth awarded full university status

University College Falmouth is to be granted full university status in a move that will further its ambition to become one of the top five arts universities in the world.

David Willetts, Minister of State for Universities and Science, today recognised Falmouth’s status as a full university following a rigorous appraisal process.

Subject to final Privy Council approval, University College Falmouth is expected to become Falmouth University by the end of 2012, and is Cornwall’s first university.
